Heta Icon Eclipse Review

Heta Icon Eclipse Review

This is the Heat Icon-Line Eclipse, and this is their range to sit between their high end Scan-line range and the more everyday Inspire and Ambition stoves

They make the Eclipse in standard form or with side glass like this. They also make stone cladding options and a log store door too, if you prefer the clean look. It comes in black or grey, and with a 5 year warranty.

These stoves are entirely wood focused with no grate or ash pan, there’s therefore no tool either, but you do get a nice Heta glove. These types of stoves are convection which has a number of benefits. The stove is essentially a stove within a stove, so this means that it will heat the room more effectively and evenly, the outside surfaces are less hot so it is better suited to freestanding situations and it has smaller distances required around it.

Lighting 5/10:

This stove has a nice click for keeping the door ajar, which does make lighting easy, but it is generally quite a slow starter . The handle is also stay cool, so the process of opening and closing is very quick and easy.

Clean 7.5/10:

This stove runs at 79% efficiency and obviously also has all the approvals that are needed. The key thing for me is does the side glass stay clean. Products like this particularly from Heta will run very clean, but what is particularly impressive is that even with the Icon-Line, Heta have kept double glazing on the side glass. This is key in order to keep it clean. You do still need to position your logs sensibly, but if you bear in mind that you want a stove full of flame, not just full of logs, then this'll work fine.

Controls 8/10:

The handle is stay cool , and so is the control. This is relatively simple, but again shows an attention to detail which any of us will enjoy the convenience of. The control itself works superbly well, running overnight is easily possible and if you watch a lot of our videos then you should be getting to the point that you could run this stove overnight and keep even the side glass clean. It will be a challenge whilst you’re learning, but this stove can do it!

Economy 9/10:

We ran the stove for 11-12 hours on 1 net of kiln dried logs, after we had lit it and got it to temperature. We already know that it can burn overnight, so getting a low and slow burn can maximise fuel economy, but you can also achieve amazing economy by burning just 1 log at a time. Not all stoves, and certainly no open fire or firepit could do this, but for those that get their air management perfect, this can cause amazing economy. This amazing air management also makes this a stunning stove, when its burning.

What I thought:

Well you don’t get the spectacular ash pan with the Icon-Line, but the air system and control seems to still be at that superb Heta level. The handle is more simple, but I like the simple shove close function. The control is marvellous and the look it creates is magical. Initially I didn’t understand the product, because we’ve already got the Scan-Line 8, which is spectacular, and better in some ways. But to be fair, this is opening up Heta levels of quality to different markets at a lower price point. If you’re looking for top quality, perfect control, Scandinavian design and at a bargain price then this Eclipse and Heta may be on to a winner here.
