The Tortoise now supplies high temperature stove paint.
This paint is fantastically easy to use, and if you don't believe me, then check out our renovation videos on YouTube to see how it's done.
Best practice is to wire wool of brush the stove surface. Clean and dry it, and then shake the can for a few minutes (make sure the can is warm). You can then begin the spraying. Start by spraying off the surface to clear the cans nozzle and then spray with short bursts beginning at 1 side of the stove, move across the surface and then stop spraying once you've gone past. Repeat this steadily across the whole surface, and then repeat the coat to get the perfect look.
Some will mask a stove in the house, and spray in place, but it is always easier if you can get the stove outside.
Once sprayed the stove will dry naturally in 10-60 minutes depending on how warm the day is. You will then need to cure the paint. This is done by firing the stove and achieving 200°c across the whole surface for 1 hour. During this the stove will give off a smell, so it is best to do this with your windows open. You also need to ensure that you do not touch the paint during curing, and it is also a good idea to open and close the door periodically to ensure it does not adhere to the paint. Once cured the stove paint will have hardened and everything will be back to normal.
